Bloom Magazine brought home 10 awards from the 2016 Best in Indiana Journalism competition sponsored by the Indiana Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The event was held at the Indianapolis Marriott North on Friday, April 21, 2017. Bloom Associate Editor Rodney Margison attended with his wife, Linda. They were accompanied by contributing photographers Jenn Hamm and Stephen Sproull, along with his wife, Amy.

Managing Editor Carmen Siering claimed three awards, including second place for Best Business or Consumer Affairs Reporting, second place for Best Education Reporting, and third place for Best Medical or Science Reporting. Editor Malcolm Abrams won third place for Best Column Writing.

The remaining six awards were claimed by Bloom contributors Douglas Wissing, third place for Best Coverage of Minority Issues; Barb Berggoetz, third place for Best Education Reporting; Tall and Small Photography, third place for Best Features Photography; Nikita Shokhov, third place for Best Multiple Picture Group; Jenn Hamm, third place for Best Features Photography; and Stephen Sproull, second place for Best Multiple Picture Group. –Sophie Bird
