MCCT.ORG presents The Trojan Women

06:45 pm to 08:45 pm
Blockhouse Bloomington, 205 S. College Avenue, Bloomington, Indiana behind Atlas & next to the Back Door
http://www.mcct.org/

The opening show for Monroe County Civic Theater’s 2017 season is Jean Paul Sartre’s adaptation of Euripides’ The Trojan Women (directed by Jennifer Whitaker). This famous greek tragedy tells the story of what happens to the women of Troy once the city falls and their fates are left to the whims of the conquering Greek armies. The play’s antiwar message and examination of personal responsibility, misogyny, female agency and the cruel aftermath of war resonate as strongly today as they did over 2000 years ago. Help us to make this dark tragedy beautiful, meaningful and outstanding. email: [email protected]. Jen Whitaker – Director.

Exhibition Opening: Beijing’s 798 Art Zone

07:00 pm to 08:30 pm
Mathers Museum of World Cultures
http://www.mathers.indiana.edu

After the turn of the 21st century, artists and cultural entrepreneurs began colonizing a former military factory complex in northeast Beijing. Taking its name from that numbered factory, the 798 Art Zone is an urban arts colony that now attracts visitors from around China and the world. Offering a glimpse of a compelling place that is both visually saturated and reflective of the state of contemporary arts and society in present-day China, Beijing’s 798 Art Zone introduces the district and its ever-changing artistic landscape through photographs. The event will be free and open to the public.

Free visitor parking is available by the Indiana Avenue lobby entrance. Metered parking is available at the McCalla School parking lot on the corner of Ninth Street and Indiana Avenue. The parking lot also has spaces designated for Indiana University C and ST permits. During the weekends free parking is available on the surrounding streets.

An access ramp is located at the Fess Avenue entrance, on the corner of Ninth Street and Fess Avenue. Reserved parking spaces are available on Ninth Street, between Fess Avenue and Indiana Avenue. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. Please call 812-855-6873.
