The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market is located at 401 N. Morton St. next to City Hall – Showers Building. The Bloomington Watercolor Society is undertaking an initiative to collect new and used art supplies for the Henryville schools affected by the devastating March 2 tornado. As part of that effort, the City of Bloomington Arts Commission will have a collection box in Showers Atrium at City Hall for citizens who wish to donate art supplies for delivery to Henryville by Bloomington Watercolor Society members. Henryville’s school remains closed and temporary elementary classrooms have been setup in a nearby church in New Albany, Ind.

Art supplies will be collected during the following times: Wednesday, April 4, 4 – 7 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 9 – noon in the Atrium of City Hall. Bloomington Watercolor Society members will be on hand to accept donations. New or used art supplies are welcome. Specific needs include: black construction paper, colored pencils, oil & tempera paints, brushes, canvases, drawing pencils, erasers, sketchbooks, printmaking materials, glue & rubber cement, and ceramics materials.

Raymond and Laura Wielgus Gallery of the Arts of Africa, the South Pacific, and the Americas, Focalpoint, third floor Locally produced cotton and indigo dyes continue to play prominent roles in West African myths, beliefs, and ritual practices, in spite of the availability of inexpensive fabric woven and printed in factories. Through this most personal means of expression, West Africans use their indigo-dyed cotton wraps to communicate a wide range of social, political, and religious messages. Visitors to this small installation will gain insight into the meanings of those messages as well as an understanding of the technologies, innovations, and marketing strategies employed by West African weavers and dyers.

The Bloomington Handmade Market is a contemporary art + craft fair showcasing 45+ local and regional artists. You’ll find a variety of modern crafts, like silkscreened shirts, plush animals, handmade soaps, jewelry, posters, prints, handbound books, etc.

The Mag 7K run/walk will be held on April 7th as part of the 2012 Season Kick-off. An expo will start at 10:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Smith’s Shoe Center with reps from Asics, Brooks, Saucony, and much more on hand to show off the newest shoes and apparel. The run will start at 2:00 p.m. and be a 7-kilometer race. The entry fee will be $14 for the race only, shirts will be sold separately. This is a fundraiser for the series so the $2 discount voucher will not apply to the entry fee. Entry to the expo is FREE with food and drinks provided by Smith’s. All proceeds from the event will be donated by Smith’s to the Mag 7 Series.
