This is the Bloomington Volunteer Network’s 38th year connecting you to the community!
Everyone is invited to explore opportunities for service and engagement at the Bloomington Volunteer Network’s Community Volunteer Fair, held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 25th on the Showers Plaza at the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market. Join staff and volunteers from over 50 local nonprofits on the Plaza to learn more about how they engage individuals and groups to fulfill their mission and deliver needed services in our community. This year both the Lotus Education and Arts Foundation and the City’s Latino Programs will host hands-on, family-friendly, all-ages, volunteering activities at their booths! The Grunwald Gallery at Indiana University Bloomington is pleased to present the exhibition Out of Easy Reach, guest-curated by Allison Glenn, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The exhibit contains over 40 works by twenty-four U.S. based, female- identifying contemporary artists from the Black and Latinx Diasporas. Working across a variety of media, these artists counter conventional accounts of abstraction in art history that have often overlooked the artistic contributions of women of color.

Art Workshop with the Tashi Kyil Monks

Both children and adults will be guided through the arts of sand painting, making “medoc” — the flowers usually put on a Sacred Butter Sculpture (using Play Doh), coloring images of Tibet and Eight Auspicious Symbols, painting Mani Stones (please bring your own flat stone), and making prayer flags.

Unity of Bloomington, in partnership with the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center, invites the public to five days of sacred learning, spiritual enlightenment and interaction with the Tibetan Buddhist monks visiting on the 2018-2019 Tashi Kyil Tour. The monks are from Tashil, a Tibetan refugee monastery located in Dehra Dun, India.
