Sincerely Yours: Stationery Voices from the Archives

08:00 am to 05:00 pm
Wells Library E460
https://libraries.indiana.edu/archives

Sincerely Yours: Stationery Voices from the Archives explores how letterhead, a common utilitarian object, serves to connect us to the social, industrial, and political expressions of our society and reflects the changing world of design. Scholars of the subject suggest the growth in the rich illustrations on stationary correspond with the advancement of American industrialization. This exhibit, with content drawn entirely from the collections of the Indiana University Archives, sets aside the content of the dispatches and focuses instead on the personal and societal stories told by via the letterhead itself. Featuring letterhead from businesses such as South Bend’s Studebaker Corporation to the international Shell Motor Oil company, personal stationary (well, hello, John D. Rockefeller!), travel destinations including nearby West Baden resort all the way to the German city of Leipzig, and, of course, Indiana University!
