Eagles Over Lake Monroe

09:00 am to 06:00 pm on Jan 31
http://bit.ly/eaglesmonroe2020

Monroe Lake is one of the best places in southern Indiana to see bald eagles, which the park typically highlights during a bald eagle driving tour in late January. Due to Covid-19, Monroe Lake is adapting that 1-day event into a 9-day experience with a mix of virtual, self-directed, and small group activities.

Jill Vance, Monroe Lake’s interpretive naturalist, is offering “sunset eagle watches” at the lake from 5 to 6 p.m. on Jan. 23, 25, 29, and 31. Vance and a couple of volunteers will have spotting scopes set up to help participants observe eagles and other birds. Hot cocoa will be available for people who bring their own travel mugs.

To ensure social distancing, each sunset eagle watch is open to a maximum of 12 people and advance registration is mandatory. Registration closes 3 days prior to each date, or when registration is full (wait lists are available). Sign up for a session at http://bit.ly/sunseteagle2021.

Vance is also encouraging people to create their own self-guided bald eagle driving tour at the lake, using the property’s bald eagle brochure as a guide to the best viewing locations and times. She will post a link to download the bald eagle brochure on the Facebook event page on Jan. 22, http://bit.ly/eaglesmonroe2020, or you can send an email request to [email protected] from Jan. 22 to 29.

Virtual programming be hosted on the property’s Facebook page, http://facebook.com/monroelake. For direct links and descriptions, see the event description at http://bit.ly/eaglesmonroe2020.
