Avi did the artwork for the Scott Russell Sanders fiction stories in the June/July 2012 issue of Bloom Magazine. This is his fourth exhibition.

Help Bloomington Become America’s Best Food Town!

10:00 am
Bloomington Banquet sculpture (Showers Common)
https://www.facebook.com/bestoftheroad

Bloomington is a finalist in the Rand McNally and USA Today Best of the Road Competition, and two judges, Mike and Brian, also known as the Road Bros, are headed this way to experience the Bloomington food scene.

So how can you help?
Here’s a list of things that you can do to show your support for Bloomington as America’s Best Food Town!

Show up on Monday, June 25 at Bloomington Banquet on the B-Line Trail for a kick-off event to officially welcome the Road Bros to Bloomington. We’ll begin at 10 am.

Please wear red, white and blue and you are welcome to bring your homemade signs welcoming the Road Bros and supporting your favorite restaurant or Bloomington’s food scene in general.

If you live or work downtown, get some sidewalk chalk and decorate the sidewalks in front of your building to welcome the Road Bros, and the Best of the Road crew to town.

Join our parade on Monday morning prior to the 10 am kick-off event. We’ll be led by the Jefferson Street Band and we’ll be walking up Walnut Street to 6th Street, then on to the B-Line Trail.

Follow us (and our judges) on Facebook and Twitter to stay informed! Join in the conversation – talk about your favorite restaurants, farms and food events in Bloomington! Participate on Facebook, Twitter and more.

Tell all your friends!

Man as Object: Reversing the Gaze at The Kinsey Institute

01:30 pm
Kinsey Institute Gallery (Morrison Hall)
http://www.kinseyinstitute.org/services/gallery.html

Man as Object presents works of art that examine the visibility of men and masculinity from female/feminist/transgender perspectives. By surveying the ways men are represented in contemporary art by women, this exhibition opens new dialogues regarding the myriad of ways women view men in today’s culture and society. It marks an important development in feminist art, which has long concentrated on images of women meant to challenge stereotypical notions of womanhood. A gallery filled with works depicting men, created by women, actively resists the prevalence of the male gaze in art. This traveling exhibition will be accompanied by a selection of artworks by female artists depicting men that is drawn from the permanent collection of The Kinsey Institute.

Runs April 13 – June 29.

The Kinsey gallery is open Monday – Friday, 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm.
