http://bit.ly/florafieldoct2017

Flora Field Day at 9:30 a.m.
• Sign up for this session at http://bit.ly/florafieldoct2017
• Registration required by October 1.
• Free; recommended for ages 12 and up.
• Session location: Combs Road
Want to work on your flora identification skills? Practice with a naturalist! Field day emphasis is on proper use and application of an ID key, which opens the door to identifying thousands of species. The naturalist will work with each attendee based on their prior experience. If you’ve never worked with flower ID before, this is a great way to learn. If you have prior experience, this is a fun way to practice your skills (and maybe add some new blooms to your life list!). 2 hours
Things to Bring:
• Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide (extra copies available, if you don’t have your own)
• bug spray (long pants are also a good idea!)
• hat and sunglasses (for sun protection)
• water bottle (pre-filled)
• camera (if you’re the picture-taking type)

2016 Bicentennial Barn Plaque Traveling Exhibit

10:00 am to 02:00 pm on Nov 11
Wylie House Museum's Education Center

The 2016 Bicentennial Barn Project Traveling Tour will be on exhibit Tuesday through Saturday during regular museum hours or by appointment. Exhibited will be ten framed barn plaques by Scott County’s Indiana Artisan, Dorrel Harrison.

In 2016, Dorrel Harrison was part of a steering committee of interested agriculturists, artists, and historians who came together to create the Bicentennial Barn program to bring attention to Indiana’s agricultural heritage during the bicentennial year. Over 200 Hoosiers entered the project, endorsed by the Indiana Bicentennial Commission, by submitting barn images and information online.

The traveling tour in 2017-2018 completes the project at various venues where Harrison’s framed barn plaques will continue to celebrate Hoosier barn heritage.

Harrison was invited to display his 2016 Bicentennial Barn Project Traveling Tour in Monroe County in conjunction with the Monroe County Barn Tour on October 28, 2017. For more information about Dorrel Harrison’s barn plaques, visit www.barnmillplaques.com. The Venue

This month’s Bloomington Unplugged at The Venue, bringing you the best of local unamplified music, features a performance by Marc Haggerty of covers and original music, self-accompanied on the guitar and harmonica. The event will take place on Tuesday evening, October 3rd, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Marc has been active from the late 1960s as a local leader of the anti-war movement. Over the years, he has also served as a leader on voting rights issues, local environmental issues, and currently to prevent the genocide of our deer and promote humane living conditions in our local jail. He has always been willing to speak truth to power and live the courage of his convictions.
Over those same years, Marc has also been a creative musician and performer, and an influential force in our music scene. His original compositions and covers are all created and selected to provoke us, inform us, and entertain us.
Hear the issues, hear the music, and be both informed and entertained.

Toronto Singer-Songwriter – Shawna Caspi, with Scott Freed and Frank Jones – The B-Town Showcase

08:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Bears Place - 1316 East 3rd St., Bloomington IN 47401
http://www.facebook.com/BloomingtonSongwriters

Shawna Caspi is a delightful young lady visiting us from her home base of TORONTO CA to Nashville TN. Although a young writer – she is a real pro! Take a listen for yourself! (http://www.shawnacaspi.com). We are pleased to introduce Shawna to our Audience! She’ll be sharing the stage with two Nashville IN Singer-Songwriters – Scott Freed and Mr. Brown County himself – Frank Jones. Scott will be making a rare stage performance and we are very much looking forward to having him as one of our Feature Writers this upcoming Tuesday evening. Freed is a first-rate songwriter, having won the Napa Valley Folks Festival Emerging Songwriter Competition during his 20 stay out west. Other Songwriter kudos includes being the winner of the Northern California Songwriters’ Competition, as well as competitions in Texas and North Carolina. In 1988, he recorded his first CD, “Indiana Moon” and followed it up in 1994 with “Farther Down the Line.” If you’ve spent any time at all in this area – you will know the name ‘Frank Jones’. Jones is one of the more colorful Singer-Songwriters we’ve hosted at the Showcase. Always fun, ALWAYS delivering an exceptional performance with his smooth, rhythmic, and well-written songs. We all know this about Frank – but did you know that he spent two years in the Air Force, studied culinary arts at the Northwood Institute in West Baden, went to Indiana University for a year, and then apprenticed with chef Peter Brown at Brannan’s in Sacramento, California. These days if folks in Brown County need a host for special events – call on Frank Jones! He’s presently working on ‘The Lost Cabin Lodge’ (https://www.facebook.com/Lost-Cabin-Lodge-1427644064163253). Frank has been known to fill the room at the Brown County Lodge with his special programming – from Christmas to CD Release. We are truly fortunate to have Frank Jones as a supporter and Feature Writer for the Bloomington Songwriter Showcase!
