Backyard Liquid Gold: Making Your Own Maple Syrup

02:00 pm to 03:30 pm on Feb 15
Hinkle-Garton Farmstead
http://www.facebook.com/HinkleGartonFarmstead

Learn how to make real maple syrup at the Hinkle-Garton Farmstead! This class is excellent for those curious about how maple syrup is made, folks who’d like to make some for their own use, or for those just getting started with production who want a bit more insight.

Enjoy maple syrup-made refreshments as we touch briefly on the history of syrup production, discuss tree identification, learn about tree tapping, and the collection and processing of sap into syrup. Then we’ll head outside to demonstrate the techniques learned. This is an interactive class so questions are encouraged.

The class will be offered two times in February—Sunday, February 9, 2020, from 2-3:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 15, 2020, from 2-3:30 p.m. The class fee is $15 per individual which includes a tap, sap bucket for collection, and a sample bottle of real maple syrup. Couples or a parent and child may register for $22 (one tap, bucket, and bottle of syrup). Additional tapping equipment will be available for purchase.

The class is sponsored by the Indiana Maple Syrup Association.

Cost: $15 individual, $22 couple/parent & child
