Couples who have been together for years can still find ways to surprise each another — or be surprised. Such was the case for each of the four couples featured in our 11th Annual Wedding Guide. For Carolyn Chang and Chris Wells, that surprise came from a change of venue. While they had planned an outdoor ceremony at the Rose Well House, a special site where they shared a magical midnight kiss, showers forced the ceremony into Indiana Memorial Union’s Tudor Room. Meet Gaurav Navin, IMU’S New Head Chef

BY BARB BERGGOETZ As an executive chef, Gaurav Navin knows what it takes to manage lots of people, handle loads of produce, and serve thousands of meals. Educated in India in culinary and business schools, Navin has spent 17 years running large food service operations providing fine to casual dining. At a casino in Yonkers, New York, he supervised more than 150 cooks. At a Pocono Mountains golf resort in Pennsylvania, he helped grow produce in a 35,000-square-foot garden. And on a Carnival Cruise Line ship, he and his staff served 10,000 meals daily. Bloom’s Ninth Anniversary Celebration (Photo Gallery)

Bloom Magazine celebrated its ninth anniversary on August 13 with a gala in the Tudor Room at the Indiana Memorial Union. More than 200 business and civic leaders, educators, members of the arts community, and contributors to the magazine attended the event. The Vallures provided the music, and IMU Executive Chef Damian Esposito and his staff provided the sumptuous fare. A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the ninth annual Bloomie Awards for the best ads of 2013–14. Selected from more than 700 ads, the winners were Greene & Shultz, Griffin Realty, Hoosier Artist Gallery, Janko’s Little Zagreb, MarDon Salon, Oliver Winery, and WFIU. The Tudor Room: Old World Ambience For Kingly Appetites

BY CHRISTINE BARBOUR To walk into the Indiana Memorial Union’s Tudor Room is to step back in time—at least to the middle of the last century, and possibly even several hundred years before that. With its soaring ceilings, sky-high windows, medieval-looking tapestries, and flying heraldic banners (one for each of IU’s schools), the room is a mid-20th- century American idea of a room where Henry  VIII might have felt at home tucking into a king-size, multicourse meal.
