The Monroe County History Center (MCHC), located in the historic Carnegie Library Building on East 6th Street, is hosting two fundraising events leading up to the new year. The Virtual Race to Make 2020 History and the Annual Holiday Sale will both help the MCHC continue to highlight Hoosier history in the years to come.

The two fundraisers will support a variety of MCHC exhibits and programming and contribute to the preservation of MCHC special collections. In the coming months, the MCHC will present exhibits like “Extra Extra! Bloomington Newspaper Advertisements,” virtual roundtables on the Civil War in the Midwest, and Zoom lectures about the lack of representation of Hoosier women at the state and federal levels of the United States government.

Virtual Race to Make 2020 History

Between now and December 31, participants in the Virtual Race to Make 2020 History are invited to run 3.1, 6.2, 13.1, or 26.2 miles to raise money for the MCHC.

Participants should register online here and can walk or run their chosen distance through their neighborhood, at their gym, at a nearby park, or in any other location they deem fit. Distances need not be run at one time or on the same day.

Every virtual runner that completes their distance by December 31 will receive a finisher’s medal and a digital runner’s bib.

Annual Holiday Sale

The MCHC Annual Holiday Sale is open now through January 15 at the MCHC gift shop. Holiday décor, ornaments, and other seasonal gifts are available.

Wreaths, banners, snow globes, holiday linens, trinkets, Santa Claus and snowman figurines, and ceramics are among the items that have been included in previous Holiday Sales.

The MCHC gift shop is open during all regular MCHC business hours. Visit monroehistory.org for more information.
