The Language of Pattern

10:00 am to 05:30 pm on Mar 30

Pattern is an underlying structure that organizes surfaces or structures in a consistent, regular manner.

Pattern can be described as a repeating unit of shape or form, but it can also be thought of as the “skeleton” that organizes the parts of a composition.

The art of Paper Quilting combines textile tradition with creative use of materials and the elements of design. The Japanese are known for their decorative silkscreen papers and those papers are the “fabric” of this work. A dominant element is Pattern, defined as the way in which the surface is organized (or happens) based on the consistent, regular interplay of component parts. Each finished Paper Quilt is grounded in respect for the past with an eye on the contemporary and innovative.
