The Milk Carton Kids

08:00 pm
Buskirk-Chumley Theater

The twice Grammy-nominated harmony duo The Milk Carton Kids hits the BCT stage with music from their new album, All the Things That I Did and All the Things That I Didn’t Do, from ANTI-Records. With pure tones and moving voices, The Milk Carton Kids know how to capture the quiet dynamics of every song as their guitars and gorgeous harmonies weave a spell that is captivating audiences from coast to coast.

The new project marks the first time that acoustic duo Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale have brought a band into the studio with them and they will perform with a full band for this performance. “We wanted to do something new,” Pattengale says. “Musically we knew we were going to make the record with a bigger sonic palette,” says Ryan. “It was liberating to know we wouldn’t have to be able to carry every song with just our two guitars.”

When planning All the Things That I Did and All the Things That I Didn’t Do, a theme of shattered realities began to emerge. Recent personal and national events provided a bruising background for the record, yet the project is somehow bigger than any personal grief. Two-part harmonies ride acoustic guitars high above the haunting landscape created by the presence of the band, as if Americana went searching for a lost America.

The Milk Carton Kids’ third studio album, Monterey, garnered rave reviews and their second Grammy nomination, “Best American Roots Performance” for “The City of Our Lady” in 2016. Their previous release, The Ash & Clay, received the 2014 Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, the same year that The Milk Carton Kids were named the Americana Music Association’s Duo/Group of the Year.

There will be a brief performance by Vera Sola, poet, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist at the top of the show.

Doors will open at 7:30 for this reserved seating show. The Milk Carton Kids will perform with a full band for this performance.

Cost: $30-$45
