Even with the unseasonably warm and sunny 70-degree weather on Saturday, February 20, the 5th Annual Local Artists Showcase still drew crowds indoors. More than 650 people stopped by the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention Center to support the arts and the more than 60 local artists who participated.

Everything from sculpture and leatherwork to oil painting and photography was represented, displaying the diversity of talent to be found in and around Bloomington. All proceeds from the event’s entry fee were donated to the convention center to purchase local artwork for its permanent display.

The showcase was presented by Bloom Magazine and Ivy Tech Community College—Bloomington. One World Enterprises served concessions, including pulled-pork sliders, empanadas, and satays, as well as many delicious desserts.

Additionally, this time-lapse video of setup shows how quickly the area turns from empty spaces and tables into the multifarious displays and structures the artists use to emphasize their work. —Erin Stephenson
