This year will marks the 12th Annual Plunge … January 1st at 11:00AM at Fairfax Beach near Four Winds Resort in Bloomington. It’s a plunge into the frigid waters of Lake Monroe – and a seriously fun time for all !!

The 2016 Polar Bear Plunge is a free event — everyone is welcome! Certificates of Achievement will be awarded to all registered participants. This year’s theme is ugly sweaters.

T-shirts commemorating the event will be available at the event. All proceeds from the t-shirt sales go to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.

Street Retreat

The Street Retreat is an opportunity to encounter ourselves in engagement with the streets of Bloomington and its residents. As we examine our fears, prejudices, strengths, and openings, we find connection and beauty.

The Street Retreat will start with group sharing, then a 4-5 hour solo walk in our city, followed by a closing meal and reflection.

A $50 donation to the work of Shalom is requested, but ability to give financially will not be a barrier to participation. Only eight spots available.

13th Annual Daisy Days Plant Sale and Museum Open Day

The sale is Saturday, April 28, from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. and Sunday, April 29, from 1-4 p.m.

Native perennials sourced from Spence Restoration Nursery, Indiana’s premier native plant supplier since 1998, will be a primary emphasis of the plant sale. The plants will include those suitable for rain gardens, butterfly gardens, and as primary pollinator food sources. Also available will be landscape flowers, spring-planted bulbs, and miscellaneous trees and shrubs. Experts are on-hand during the sale to answer questions and guide selections. The proceeds from the sale will benefit ongoing gardening efforts at the site. Maple syrup and volunteer-produced jam and jelly will also be available for purchase, and members of Friday Musicale will provide music inside the 1892 main house which will also be open to visitors. The Farmstead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned and maintained by Bloomington Restorations, Inc.

Monster House Presents: Metabolize, If Able, a book release for the debut queer sci-fi novel by Clay AD.

Featuring performances by Clay AD (fiction, Berlin), Casper Heinemann (poetry, U.K.), Miles Grimmer (theater), Chelsea Sherman and Jessica Ferguson of Windfall Dancers (dance/theater), Francesca Hanson (electronic music), A Bowden (powerpoint), and Jasper Wirtshafter (poetry).

Proceeds will be donated to benefit sex workers affected by FOSTA and SESTA.

Monster House Press is a monthly reading series supported in part by grants from the Bloomington Arts Commission and the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association. Monster House Presents is a non-profit publisher and circuit of art & literature in the Midwest.

38th Annual Gene Flander Harmony School Golf Outing

Harmony School invites the community to our 38th Annual Harmony School Golf Outing on Sunday, May 6, at Stone Crest Golf Community located at 7001 Stone Crest Drive, Bedford IN 47421. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by the shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. In the event of bad weather, an alternative rain date is scheduled for May 20.

This event is perfect for business teams, families, and people of all ages! All proceeds from the event support the Miles Kanne Scholarship Fund for Harmony students which distributed over $20,000 in scholarships to students in 2017 and since 1980 has provided over $600,000 in scholarships. The event will feature a raffle with over $3,000 worth of prizes, refreshments (featuring Sun King Beer) throughout the events, and a luncheon.

Atterbury Honor Ride

Join Project Hero and honor our nation’s healing heroes at the Atterbury Honor Ride in Franklin, IN on May 19. This is a family-friendly bike-riding event that offers three separate courses that run throughout the Camp Atterbury area for all levels of riders. The event raises needed funds for local and national efforts for Project Hero (Healing Exercise Rehabilitation Opportunity) to help rehabilitate wounded veterans and save lives.

The Atterbury Honor Ride will occur on Saturday, May 19, starting at 8 a.m. It will take place at Camp Atterbury Rail Operations. The online registration closes on Friday, May 18, at 8 p.m and costs $75. On-site registration opens Saturday, May 19, at 6:45 a.m. and costs $85.
