On Saturday, April 10, around 2:30 p.m., musician Bruce Springsteen visited Bloomington’s Uptown Cafe with fellow celebrity John Mellencamp.

“What a great surprise, great honor, uplift for this past year,” says owner Michael Cassady. “We are the same age, and he effected me a great deal with his heartfelt driving rock ‘n’ roll. He loved the Uptown paintings . He was with John Mellencamp, John’s two guitarists, and John’s assistant. … Bruce had our New Yorker Cheeseburger, fries, and a coke. All others had biscuits and gravy. A gift from the universe, a kind and humble man.”
