The Library of Things at the Monroe County Public Library has expanded to include iPads and Mobile Video Production Kits.

A new addition to the library in 2020, the Library of Things makes items available for check-out that are not part of the traditional library repertoire. The MCPL Library of Things includes objects like energy monitors, seeds, toys, mobile hotspots, outdoor adventure backpacks, and book club kits.

The new, cellular-enabled iPads come with unlimited data and do not require WiFi to operate. Pre-loaded with common everyday apps, the iPads are funded by a City of Bloomington Digital Equity Grant.

The Mobile Video Production Kits provide recording equipment that is compatible with any smartphone device. The kits include lapel microphones and adjustable lights and tripods.

Library of Things items can be reserved for pickup at the Main Library, Ellettsville Branch, or Bookmobile. At the Main Library, the Library of Things has now been given two physical locations. Items for grow-ups can be found near the DVD collection. Objects for children, like toys and story time kits, can be found in the Children’s Room.
