King’s—Blues, BBQ & Funkfest

05:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Upland Brewery, 350 W. 11th St.
http://bgcbloomington.com/

The Upland Brewery will host the First Annual “KING’S-BLUES, BBQ & FUNKFEST.” Proceeds from this event will benefit the Carl Deal Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington.
On Saturday, August 3rd, the first of 3 bands will play at 5 pm, followed at 7 and 9 pm.
The event is in honor of Carl Deal Jr. (affectionately known as “King” ), a wonderful, hard working, compassionate, loyal, and incredibly fun loving man, who lived in Bloomington since he was a small boy and worked at GE for over 25 years. Carl was both a former member and advocate for the Boys & Girls Clubs and the families served there.
Upon his death in August 2012, a group of Carl’s friends and family, established a scholarship fund in his name at the Boys & Girls Clubs. Carl recognized the impact that “The Club” had on his own life and many other families he grew up with, and wanted to “give back.” In order to build and sustain this scholarship fund, and bring together Bloomington’s first BBQ & Music Event, Upland Brewery will host this year’s inaugural event.
Local BBQ extraordinaire, Will Thomas of Will T’s BBQ, Gerrick DeVane of The BBQ Train, and Upland Brewery will all provide great grilled fare.
Award winning blue’s artist Tad Robinson will open the evening at 5 pm, followed by local blue’s band King Bee & the Stingers at 7 pm and Bloomington’s own award winning R&B band The Dynamics will complete the night when they perform at 9 pm. Sound, lights, and staging will be provided by Scott Bender (another local artist).
