Andrzej Munk’s Eroica, a heroic symphony in two parts and a masterpiece of the Polish Film School, puts a realist lens to the romantic idea of heroism. The film draws on its author’s first-hand experience as a soldier in the September campaign against the invading German army in 1939. Imprisoned in a POW camp, Stawinski escaped, participated in the Warsaw Uprising, and upon its failure was returned to another POW camp. Eroica displays the futility of the armed struggle against both Germany and Russia, while exposing the idea of heroic suffering as preposterous. (2K DCP presentation)

Misty Stevens & Mark Stonecipher are the dynamic Bluegrass / Mountain Music Duo who have captured the hearts of our Audience at the Bloomington Songwriter Showcase. Misty with her sultry vocals, and good Bluegrass guitar work, accompanied by her husband, and co-writer – Mark Stonecipher – on banjo and occasional guitar as well. If you haven’t heard Misty Stevens – you should do that soon and you can do it TONIGHT at the Showcase : -) Also on this evening’s program is Briagha McTavish – a very young writer from Lafayette IN who has won several songwriting awards already – not yet 21 years old! If that isn’t enough to get you out on a cold January Monday evening – it is our monthly OPEN GUEST ‘Share-A-Chair’ evening. We keep one seat open for up to six Songwriters who will rotate throughout the evening. Lots of fun!
