Bloomington Chamber Singers and the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra will join forces for two performances of Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental Mass in B minor, BWV 232, on Saturday, April 13 at 8 pm, and Sunday, April 14 at 3 pm, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomington. Gerald Sousa, now in his 27th year as Artistic Director of the Chamber Singers, will conduct the sixty-five-voice choral ensemble, soloists, and orchestra. Bach’s Mass in b Minor ranks among the greatest artistic creations of Western music. Scored for five-part chorus, soloists, and a full Baroque orchestra, the work is remarkable for the diversity and intricacy of its musical language and architecture, and universal in its spiritual insight.
