About the Performers:
Janiece Jaffe grew up in a musical family; her mother was an opera singer and her father was a professor of music and a classical musician. As a child her parents facilitated ‘Opera Nights’ where singing was the mode of conversation at the dinner table.

Janiece attended Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music, studying Jazz with distinguished professors David Baker and Dominic Spera, receiving her B.A. in Vocal Jazz Performance. She studied three summers with Bobby McFerrin, opening her voice to infinite possibilities and vocal improvisations.

Jaffe has toured Japan, performing Glenn Miller’s music, and performed in Manhattan’s “Danny’s Skylight Room.” While performing with Keter Betts (former bassist with Ella Fitzgerald) at Washington DC’s “Blue’s Alley”; Betts said of Jaffe: “Stop looking to the heavens for new stars; there’s a bright star here on earth that shines with her voice.”

Jaffe has sung in big bands, quintets, quartets, trios, and orchestras, singing standards, bossa nova, bebop, and scat. She also enjoys singing back up for Motown, Soul and Reggae. In the late 1990’s Janiece became interested in sound as a conduit for healing; she began working with Crystal bowls and has created three meditation CDs. Janiece has recorded 12 albums, and can be heard as a guest vocalist on more than 20 other recordings.

Janiece lives in Bloomington, where she teaches, performs and gives vocal workshops, including workshops on Circle Singing, improvisation, and the Voice as a Healing Instrument.
Curtis Cantwell Jackson is a native of Trinidad. He lived in New York City until moving to Bloomington in 2002. His personal goals are to “reach people with my music and my heart, and share a lot of love.” Whenever he’s around new people, he makes it his business to know their names and befriend them; “I let them know they can come to me.” Curtis teaches music classes, performs many genres from “jazzy pop” to reggae to soul and gospel. Music offers Jackson the perfect stage to spread his love widely; and through his talents he can offer his friendly, warm heart “in bulk” instead of one individual at a time.
