This free concert at Fairview United Methodist Church will feature a variety of romantic songs from both classic opera and Broadway musicals.

“Aren’t you tired of hearing about easy, comfortable, romantic love? Don’t you miss the days when love was dangerous, cursed, and secret – the way it was meant to be? Well, return with us to the good old, bad old days of forbidden love with “Foreign Affairs, Domestic Intrigue” – a free summer concert that’s all about love and lies from around the globe and close to home. Soprano Anna Singer, baritone Richard Lewis, and pianist Michael Borowitz are back this summer to regale you with music from Broadway and opera and introduce you to characters filled with doom and gloom. Of course, you’ll hear happy music, too – from PBS’ Downton Abbey and its era; great spirituals; bubbly Rossini; toe-tapping tunes by Frank Loesser. But you’ll also get deep, dark drama from Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Plus, we’ll celebrate Verdi’s 200th birthday with music from his “cursed” operas, Macbeth and La Forza del Destino (The Force of Destiny). And, in a more generous vein, at this free concert we will accept donations to benefit Boys and Girls Clubs of Bloomington, who provide great programs to area youth. So, whether you want to bask in the misery of others or give generously to your community, come join us! This concert is supported in part by a grant from the Bloomington Arts Commission.”
