O’Bannon Institute Panel Discussion

Cokie Roberts, political commentator for ABC News, will capstone Ivy Tech-Bloomington’s ninth annual O’Bannon Institute for Community Service with a closing conversation on Friday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. The closing conversation will take place following Institute panels on Ivy Tech-Bloomington’s main campus, in the Connie and Steve Ferguson Academic Building. The event theme for this year’s Institute is “America the Dutiful – The Questions that Occupy U.S.”

The O’Bannon Institute will take place over the course of three days, from April 25-27, 2012. The O’Bannon Institute launched nine years ago by Ivy Tech’s Bloomington campus is an annual opportunity for the community to come together to discuss topics related to nonprofits, education and political and civic service. Previous speakers at the Institute include former U.S. Senators, Pulitzer prize-winning authors, Governors, political advisers and columnists, a presidential candidate, and former First Lady of the United States, Laura W. Bush.

IU Soul Revue 40th Anniversary Celebration Banquet

Kevon Edmonds, IU Soul Revue alumnus and accomplished singer/songwriter, will be honored at this banquet, which will be held at the Bloomington Monroe County Convention Center. Edmonds will receive the Herman C. Hudson Alumni Award, named for the founder of the African American Arts Institute at IU. Previous winners have included opera vocalists Janet Williams and Angela Brown, music legend Isaiah Sanders, Broadway performer Justin Johnston and the late dancer Gabriel Paige.

Fitness Boot Camp 101 at the YMCA

This forty-five minute “boot camp” class at the Monroe County YMCA combines a number of intense exercises (plyometrics, running skills, jumping, and stair climbing) and is an advanced level class. It runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from April 16 to May 27. Register on website.

Strength training is recommended to help keep muscles toned and bones dense. Certified instructors will use equipment such as body bars, hand weights, and stability balls to create a variety of workouts. This one-hour strength class will use exercises that are functionally appropriate for all and will create an overall toning experience for the entire body.
