Ekphrasis, the Pairing of Painting and Poetry

05:00 pm to 06:00 pm
The Venue

For our version of an Ekphrasis,The Venue has invited a number of gifted poets to each select one painting by one of our talented artists, to inspire them to write a poem. The Paintings they select and the Poems they write create an opportunity for you to experience some of the finest art and poetry ever exhibited in a single combined showing in Bloomington, The Venue’s Ekphrasis.
On Sunday, September 16th, and again on the following Sunday, September 23rd, divided into two groups, the painters will explain the inspiration for their painting, and their paired poets will read their poems and explain what about the painting inspired their works.
On September 16th, begining at 5:00p.m., the following painters will present their paintings: Dawn Adams, Cheryl Duckworth, Dixie Ferrer, Wyatt LeGrand, Susie Gregory, Joanne Shank, and Don Geyra, and the following poets will present their poems: Tony Brewer, LuAnne Hollaway, Eric Rensberger, Nathan Schmidt, Abugunde, Andy Hubbard, Julia Karr. This is our fourth Ekphrasis, and you are invited to attend, free. But come early to get a good seat, as this has become one of The Venue’s most popular annual events.
The demonstratively evocative paintings you will see are all for sale, at reasonable prices, and copies of the poems will also be available, free. The Venue’s regular art collection will also be available for viewing and purchase.
