Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Bloomington

12:00 pm to 03:00 pm
City Hall Plaza
http://www.alz.org/indiana/walk

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter invites Bloomington and surrounding county residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® on Sunday, September 16.

Along the walk route, participants will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, volunteer opportunities, public policy initiatives and local programs and services provided by the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with a poignant Promise Garden ceremony before the walk, which invites participants to display colored flowers which represent their personal connections to Alzheimer’s.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 16 million caregivers provide unpaid care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Indiana, there are more than 110,000 people living with the disease and their 338,000 unpaid caregivers. In 2017, Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Bloomington raised more than $97,000 for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This year, the Greater Indiana Chapter aims to raise $110,000.

WHERE & WHEN:
City Hall Plaza, 401 N. Morton Street – Bloomington, Ind.
Sunday, September 16
12 p.m. – On-site registration begins
1:15 p.m. – Opening ceremony
Walk begins after the ceremony ends

GET INVOLVED – LOCAL CALLS TO ACTION:
Registration is now open. Walk participants are encouraged to pre-register online for free at alz.org/indiana/walk. Participants can join a team, sign up as a team captain, or register to walk as an individual. Funds raised for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s make a difference in the lives of those facing Alzheimer’s. A donation of $25 funds one toll-free, 24/7 Helpline call (800.272.3900) for Hoosiers living with Alzheimer’s or caregivers seeking information and guidance. Alzheimer’s disease doesn’t stop affecting Hoosiers after business hours, and neither does the support of the Alzheimer’s Association. In Bloomington, this support helps provide continued research, advocacy, and the continuation of the 24/7 Helpline.

SPONSORS:
Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Bloomington is supported by National Presenting Sponsor Edward Jones, Statewide Presenting Sponsor Eli Lilly & Company, and Statewide Major Sponsor Trilogy Health Services, with additional support from Garden Villa Bloomington, Autumn Hills, Jill’s House, and TriStar Engineering.
