When 10 Salon & Spa opened in October 2014, Manager Megan Lewis envisioned a relaxing environment that would be a one-stop shop for a client’s beauty needs. “I wanted this to be a nice place to hang out,” she says. “I didn’t want people to feel rushed.”

Lewis hopes she has achieved that goal. The salon and spa offer services for hair, nails, skin, waxing, and massage. Lewis manages three stylists, two estheticians, a massage therapist, and two receptionists — a large enough staff to comfortably look after clients, she says.

The name of the salon plays off its location within the Tenth & College apartment complex, in the spot formerly occupied by Les Champs Elysées Day Spa and Salon. The space was expanded and now includes a pedicure room; two rooms for waxing, facials, and massages; and a facial consultation room.

Because of the proximity to so many student apartment buildings, Lewis was expecting that most of her clients would be young. She also expected that the vast majority would be female. She has been surprised by the salon’s client mix. “I’ve been really excited to see so many locals,” she says. “The students are just a bonus.” As for the gender ratio, it’s about 50–50, she says. And the rebooking rate, she adds, is 75 percent.

10 Salon & Spa is carrying lines not found elsewhere in Bloomington, according to Lewis. Among them, milk_shake, which is a line of paraben-free, sulfate-free, milk-based hair products. Another is Davines, 100 percent natural hair and skin products from Italy produced from sustainable ingredients.

For those clients who want to pamper their hands and feet, the salon features Morgan Taylor nail products. “They dry faster and the colors last longer,” Lewis claims. 10 Salon & Spa also uses Jane Iredale makeup and dermalogica face care products.

Lewis says she is adaptable and listens to her clients’ suggestions for the salon and spa. “It’s fun being new because I can grow with the community and grow with its needs,” she says.

Free parking for salon patrons is located in the Tenth & College garage and metered spaces are available in front of the salon. For a full listing of services and prices, and to book an appointment online, visit 10salon.net.
