Growing up in Bloomington, Kelsy Webber dreamed of becoming a florist. Inspired by her maternal grandparents’ love of gardening and stories about the flower shop her father’s aunts once owned in Terre Haute, Indiana, Webber developed a deep appreciation for the “universal language” of flowers.
“Flowers are in all these major milestones in our lives. I think flowers are so magical,” says Webber, 35, who recently returned to Bloomington after a two-year stay in Arizona and Colorado with her husband and daughters. “I’ve wanted to open a flower shop for 15 years.”
On August 1, Webber realized her dream by opening Three Blondes Floral Co. at 217 W. 6th St. Named for her three blonde daughters, the shop offers fresh floral arrangements for all of life’s important occasions, including birthdays, anniversaries, baby and bridal showers, weddings, memorial services, and more.
“I would love for people to establish a relationship with us and have us be their florist,” says Webber, who stocks a curated selection of gifts like cards, candles, and floral artwork to accompany her creations. “We have something for every budget.”
With an eye toward sustainability, she uses seasonal, locally grown flowers to design unique arrangements that distinguish Three Blondes from the cookie-cutter bouquets at the grocery store, she says. Customers can choose from a selection of pre-designed, seasonally rotating arrangements, or work with Webber to create something entirely custom.
Webber says she gathered the experience needed to open Three Blondes by farming flowers on her family’s generational property in Bloomington, designing florals for high-end weddings and private clients out West, and working with customers at a flower farm in Colorado. To share expertise with others, she looks forward to hosting floral design workshops at Three Blondes.
