WildCare Helps Young Bald Eagle Return to Wild (Photo Gallery)

A young bald eagle was released into the wild on Sunday, November 10, after being rehabilitated by WildCare Inc. The emaciated eagle was found, abandoned by its mother, at Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area outside of Linton. WildCare volunteers and staff have been working with the bird since May and have treated it for parasites and a fungal infection. Now healthy and strong, the bald eagle was released near Stillwater Marsh, an area on the north side of Lake Monroe, where as many as six other bald eagles are known to hunt and nest. Indiana Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Specialist Rex Watters says that the eagle was released in an area DNR personnel travel on a daily basis, though “once it leaves that area, it’s on its own like any other young bird.”
