Hi, my name is Yogurt (Yogi) Abrams and I am Bloom’s new canine correspondent. It is my job to interview and write about dogs and other animals for the magazine and website (except skunks; I don’t do skunks).

I hail from Mitchell, Indiana, famous as the home of NASA astronaut Gus Grissom. Let me be clear though, I am not now, nor have I ever been an astronaut. (I maybe could have been, but I’m scared of heights.)

My vet tells me that I am part poodle and part Yorkshire Terrier. And I’m Jewish. I feel this ethno-religious mix makes me the right dog in the right job for the times.

For sure, I have big paws to fill. My predecessor, the indomitable Sophie Abrams passed away last year at the age of 112. Who can ever forget her penetrating interview with Lil Bub in which the world-famous cat revealed what she loved best about Bloomington. Answer: construction.

What I like best about Bloomington is leftovers. I love leftovers, and street food.

I am looking forward to my new gig and to meeting many of you. I often take walks around Cathcart Park in Renwick and near the Bloom office on West. 6th St. If you see me, stop and say “hey.”  And if you happen to have a dog biscuit or two on you, well, it could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
