To kick off WonderLab’s Big-Headed Ants Special Exhibition, Stone Belt Big-Headed Ant artwork in a variety of media by will be exhibited and for sale! Join us for a First Friday reception to celebrate the artists and their work. WonderLab offers half off admission on First Friday evenings, but Stone Belt guests (clients, their families and staff) will get FREE admission for the reception and activities. Enjoy a meet and greet with the artists and light refreshments. Stone Belt guests check in at the front desk at arrival and mention “Stone Belt Artists”. Come early and stay late to enjoy the other special activities and the special exhibition on Big-Headed Ants.

“Auto Indiana”
From Elwood Haynes’s early machine to today’s numerous parts manufacturers, this exhibition examines the role of the automobile in the Hoosier State. Indiana was one of the leaders in automobile production until the 1930’s when Detroit emerged as the nation’s technological and industrial giant. Come see the Howe car, Monroe County’s first automobile, graciously on loan from the Mathers Museum of World Cultures. Runs through December 31.

“Moco’s Prehistoric Past”
Come see and examine fossils of plants, organisms, and animals found in the Hoosier state and learn how they contributed to Southern Indiana’s natural landscape. The history center is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm. Runs through March 31.

Onya LaTour: Pioneering Modern Art in Indiana

In 1941 Onya LaTour opened the Indiana Museum of Modern Art near Nashville, Indiana, creating a stir in local art circles. Two works from her personal collection are featured in this installation presented in conjunction with Onya LaTour on view at the Indianapolis Museum of Art this fall, to which the IU Art Museum loaned four pieces.

Focalpoint: Traditional Changes: Art from the American Southwest
Continuing through February 15, 2015
What does it mean to call an object “traditional” or “authentically Native American”? Explore these questions through examples of basketry, ceramics, textiles, and jewelry that came into being as a result of interactions with other Native American groups, contact with non-Native admirers and markets, or particular happenstances in a community’s history. Organized by Emma Kessler, curatorial assistant for the arts of Africa, the South Pacific, and the Americas.

The show highlights more than 45 artists and a variety of media, with choice fine art pieces by Rudy Pozzatti.

Beer School, a series of educational presentations about beer, is held every Tuesday at 7 pm at Yogi’s Grill & Bar in the Pub Room. Speakers range from Yogi’s own in-house staff (who are Certified Beer Servers) to craft brewers from around the country. Admission is free.

Quarryland Men’s Chorus is an established, respected partner in the region’s art scene. In addition to providing a positive performance-based community for gay and bisexual men and their allies in South Central Indiana, the Chorus fosters talent, fellowship, pride, and understanding through excellence in vocal music. Rehearsals are open for anyone interested in joining the chorus either as a singing member, non-singing member, or volunteer to listen to a rehearsal and join some of the members for social-hour afterward. We typically adjourn to Lennie’s on 10th Street after rehearsal. Please join us!

The open jam sessions raise the awareness of jazz in the community by involving jazz artists, educators, students, community members and business leaders to come together once a month for a jam session at Café Django. Students work on the art of jazz improvisation in small groups and are led by experienced jazz educators and performers. Some of the guest facilitators for the jam sessions over the past year have been: David Baker, Larry Ridley, Pat Harbison, Tom Walsh, Jeremy Allen, Keith Karns and Monika Herzig.

Recurring monthly on the last Tuesday of the month.

Weekly Blues Jam. Host band plays the first set, then invites players up to jam.
