Exhibit – Women of RCA

10:00 am to 04:00 pm on Apr 27
Monroe County History Center, 202 E 6th Street
http://www.monroehistory.org

With the onset of World War II, the traditional social roles for men and women of Monroe County shifted dramatically. With a large number of men overseas, women had to take up both roles. The new exhibition ‘Women of RCA’ shows how women contributed to the war effort, took care of their families, and shaped the identity of a post-World War II Monroe County.

The Birds

07:30 pm
Buskirk-Chumley Theater
https://bctboxoffice.org/event/the-birds/

Based on a novelette by Daphne du Maurier, The Birds follows the blossoming relationship between socialite Melanie Daniels and lawyer Mitch Brenner. After a surprise second meeting in a pet store, where Mitch is hoping to purchase a pair of birds for his kid sister’s birthday, Melanie visits Mitch’s hometown (with gifted birds in tow). What ensues is the beginning of a new relationship, sparking with chemistry, as well as a series of mysterious and unexplainable attacks by flocks of ordinary birds on residents of the town.

The Birds was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Special Effects. In 2016, the film was selected by the National Film Preservation Board to be added to the United States National Film Registry.

Doors will open at 7pm for this general admission event.
