The Strawberry Shortcake Festival is Thursday, May 4, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm on the Monroe County Courthouse Lawn. For $5, enjoy homemade cake, topped with strawberries, Bruster’s vanilla ice cream, and whipped topping. Enjoy it on the lawn or take it to go. All proceeds support the Bloomington Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington. Rain location is Fountain Square Mall.

Start your evening at the museum. Mix and mingle, enjoy world music in the atrium, plus a cash bar and food, participate in interactive art events, and catch live performances. Our May First Thursday program will be the final major event before the museum closes for renovations. We will be giving away 1,000 triangle-shaped brownies in honor of the museum’s architect I.M. David A. Brenneman, the Wilma E. Kelley Director of the Eskenazi Museum of Art will share the vision and plans for the Eskenazi Museum of Art’s upcoming renovation.

Re-Imagining Your Museum, second floor
See images and renderings of the museum’s upcoming renovation. You can build your dream museum with architecture series Legos. And tell us what you’d like to see, hear, do in your new art museum, by adding ideas to a wishing wall.

Playing with Abstraction, first floor
This playful exploration of abstraction will be hosted by Eskenazi Museum of Art volunteers, and is related to our current special exhibition Abstract Painting in Europe, 1949-1968.

Surrealist Poem and Exquisite Corpse Making, first floor
Create a surrealist poem or an exquisite corpse drawing using a twist of chance. Brought to you by Wounded Galaxies, Bloomington’s Festival of Experimental Media, in conjunction with our current installation The Fountain at 100.

Solidarity Wrap: Global Wrap Fashion Exchange, second floor
Head wraps and scarves are a global commonality among people of many cultures. Solidarity Wrap will bring people together to share wrapping methods, helping each other create head wraps and taking selfies and portraits to share. Presented by the AsGoodAsMine_Collective.

Tour: Art of Archtecture, second floor
Bret Rothstein, Associate Professor of Art History at Indiana University will lead a tour of the archtecture of the art musuem. Learn how to look and listen to how buildings affect us.
Faces of Our World Family / Coloring Craze, second floor
Create and color a mask or other images from the Eskenazi Museum of Art’s collection
