Wyatt LeGrand will hold a painting demonstration from 2-4 p.m. prior to a reception during the Second Saturday Village Art Walk on October 8, from 4-8 p.m. at the Brown County Art Guild at 48 S. Brian Gordy Painting Demonstration

Award-winning watercolor artist Brian Gordy will host a free painting demonstration on Saturday on October 15, from 2-4 p.m. A free piano and violin concert will follow from 4-6 p.m. Join us for an evening with the arts!

Brian Gordy, a resident of Muncie, Indiana has been painting watercolors since 1976. He has taught art in the public schools, the university level and privately for over 20 years. He exhibits throughout the United States and has earned numerous awards for his watercolors, including “Best Watercolor” 2013 Hoosier Salon Annual, and “Award of Excellence” – Watercolor Society of Indiana 2013 Annual. In addition to lectures and workshops relating to his watercolors, Brian has been the featured speaker at various environmental organizations and interest groups stemming from his concentrated study of Indiana native turtles – a subject that he has been painting for over 10 years. Brian has been a member of the Brown County Art Guild since 2011.

Johannes Concert Series at the Brown County Art Guild

Join us for a free concert featuring Hyewon Yang on violin and Ilya Friedberg on piano.

About the musicians:
Hyewon Yang has been recognized for her deep musicality and her devotion to composer’s manuscript. As a growing violinist in Seoul, Korea, Hyewon placed herself among the leading violinists and was invited to perform with the Mihail Jora Bacau Philharmonic and Korean Senior Orchestra. Upon moving to the United States, Hyewon was invited to study with violinist Aaron Rosand, and has been inspired to the highest standards of violin playing as well as participating in his Summer Master Course in Purchase, NY. Since 2011, Hyewon has continued her studies at Indiana University with violinist Alexander Kerr. Hyewon is celebrated for her natural musicianship, deep tone and her expressive interpretation.

Ilya Friedberg has been referred to as a “poet of the piano with a magical touch that can bring a fresh view on much-played pieces.” At home on the stage as both a soloist and chamber musician, Ilya is a vivid performer, composer, and conductor as well as a very active promoter of new music. A winner of multiple international competition Ilya has enjoyed collaborations with great artists such as the Pacifica Quartet, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Claude Baker, Mark Kaplan, Evelyne Brancart, Tim Noble, Carol Vaness, Uriel Segal, Eric Stumacher. He has performed worldwide in concert halls such as Small Philharmonic Hall in St.Petersburg, Carnegie Hall, and other venues across Europe and the United States. Ilya is a student of Menahem Pressler and has been his assistant for the past three years at Indiana University.

The Breeze Bends the Grass

Thanks to Indiana Masterpiece Grant for the Bicentennial, grant from Duke Energy and Brown County Art Guild sponsorship, the staged musical that premiered at the Playhouse in 2012 is back with Krista Detor directing and starring along with co-writer Arbutus Cunningham, Amanda Biggs, Kate Braun and Lara Lynn Weaver. This musical is a captivating window into the lives, choices and varied artwork of early 20th century Indiana women artists – Marie Goth, Janet Payne Bowles, the Overbeck Sisters, and Selma Steele. Beer & wine sold in the auditorium. 6 performances only.
