IU Cinema Presents: ‘And the Band Played On’

07:00 pm
IU Cinema (1213 E. 7th Street)
http://www.cinema.indiana.edu/

Based on the best-selling book by Randy Shilts about the U.S. AIDS crisis of the early 1980s, the film explores the mixture of fear and denial in the gay community, early disregard in the American media, apathy by the U.S. government, and in-fighting among scientists regarding the discovery of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that leads to AIDS. It highlights both the networks through which disease spreads and the how the networks of problem solvers and policy makers can help and hinder each other. (Digital presentation)

Bill Darrow, one of the scientific researchers depicted in the film, will introduce.

Cost: Free (tickets required - pick up tickets 30 minutes before film, or at IU Auditorium during normal hours)
