Local illustrator Joe Lee, a longtime contributor to Bloom, has written and illustrated a biography about Holocaust survivor Eva Kor (1934-2019) of Terre Haute, Indiana.
At the age of 10, Kor’s parents and two older sisters were murdered by Nazis. She and her twin sister survived and were taken to Auschwitz, where they were experimented on by Josef Mengele, who sought to discover the components that contributed to a perfect Aryan race.
Kor and her twin, Miriam, survived Auschwitz, and Kor eventually relocated to Terre Haute with her husband, Mickey Kor, also a Holocaust survivor. There, she was instrumental in educating area students about the Holocaust and in establishing the CANDLES (Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiment Survivors) Holocaust Museum and Education Center.
Lee’s graphic novel, Forgiveness: The Story of Eva Kor, Survivor of the Auschwitz Twin Experiments, will be available on October 5, and Lee will attend a book signing at Morgenstern Bookstore that evening.
