A local artist who goes by the name State of the R (SotR) has turned to creating public art during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the outbreak in March, she has created three murals that center around the idea of hope.
“Mental health is such an important aspect of holistic wellbeing, and art can remind us that we are not alone, especially in this pandemic,” says SotR.
Her art depicts “confidently imperfect” cartoon-like characters that promote self-care and self-empowerment.
“’It doesn’t have to be perfect; it just needs to feel right’ is my core artistic mantra,” SotR says.
The three pieces, collectively titled “Hope, [Soap, Mask, Distance], + Love,” are located on three wall pillars at Artisan Alley, 222 W. 2nd St.
