
United Way of Monroe County, the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, and the Bloomington Health Foundation have allocated $333,000 in grant money to support local nonprofits during the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic.
A total of 33 grants have been distributed to 26 nonprofit groups to support āimmediate economic stability and basic needs, as well as the continuation of the function of local nonprofit organizations,ā according to a press release.
Of these funds, $298,175 were distributed to 16 organizations in Monroe, Owen, and Greene counties via the United Way COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund.
āWith support from the COVID-19 Fund, these organizations can continue to provide life-changing services to members of our community affected by the pandemic,ā said the organization in a statement.
Shalom Community Center, New Hope for Families, Wheeler Mission, Middle Way House, and the Monroe County Health Department received $70,000 to coordinate an isolation shelter space for Monroe County residents currently staying in mass shelters. This will provide people experiencing homelessness with shelter options that adhere to recommended social distancing protocol.
