BY ERIN HOLLINDEN When Brianne Harness left Louisville, Kentucky, after a divorce and three bouts with cancer, she says she quickly found “Bloomington to be such a close knit community, people want to help you and champion you.” Because of that, she and her daughter, Paisley, now 6, quickly felt at home. Harness, founder of be.CAUSE Gallery and Studio, is repaying that kindness by donating a portion of the proceeds from her artwork, classes, and creative events to charity. Harness, 35, says a minimum of 10 percent of the profits from her studio, located at 314 E. Kirkwood, below The Pourhouse Cafe, goes to charities each month. Meet Gaurav Navin, IMU’S New Head Chef

Educated in India in culinary and business schools, Navin has spent 17 years running large food service operations providing fine to casual dining. At a casino in Yonkers, New York, he supervised more than 150 cooks. At a Pocono Mountains golf resort in Pennsylvania, he helped grow produce in a 35,000-square-foot garden. And on a Carnival Cruise Line ship, he and his staff served 10,000 meals daily. The couples made sure their weddings reflected who they are and what they value. Aubrey Wathen and Jordan Hulls’ traditional ceremony was followed by a reception appropriately held in Indiana University’s Henke Hall of Champions. For Megan Tippmann and Ryan Kemp, it was most important that their friends and family have a relaxed, wonderful time. BY MIKE LEONARD Over the past decade, it became a tradition in Hank Walter’s family to visit Bloomington at least twice a year and always to include a trip to get gingerbread cookies at Sugar & Spice bakery in the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU). Now the tempting sweet shop is just down the hall from his new office.
