Explore some of the hidden gems of southern Indiana! With a trip to the historic Beck’s Mill Gristmill and a visit to the Steven’s Museum, this day trip to Salem highlights the only extant mill in the state that used grindstone milling and the community history of Washington County.
Some walking will be involved in the trip. For parking convenience, the group will meet at the former Kmart parking lot.

Indiana Maple Syrup Weekend at the Farmstead

Visitors to the site can tour the sugaring operations and learn about the process. Depending on the weather throughout the syrup season and the continued availability of good sap, the evaporator may still be operating. Visitors will also be able to purchase bottled maple syrup, maple candies, maple cream, do-it-yourself maple tree tapping kits and books related to maple syrup, and sample refreshments made with maple syrup. Jellies made onsite by volunteers will also be available to sample and purchase. Indiana Maple Syrup Weekend is sponsored by the Indiana Maple Syrup Association with participating sugar makers around the state opening their operations to the public for one or both days. The farmstead is owned and maintained by Bloomington Restorations, Inc. New and beginning in March 2020: Animal Hour. This recurring weekly program encourages visitors to meet the WonderLab Animal Ambassadors in live, facilitated interactions. Who might you meet this week? Come and see! Maybe a bearded dragon or Mooch, the blue tongued skink. Possibly you’ll have a chance to pet a Madagascar hissing cockroach or corn snake. Visitors will be able to get up close and ask questions. Weekly topics will rotate and might include: the biology, behavior and natural homes of each Ambassadors; how WonderLab cares for each animal as well as their unique background stories.
