“Secret Impressions: The Reproduction of Erotica Prior to the Camera” by The Kinsey Institute

01:30 pm to 05:00 pm
Indiana University, The Kinsey Institute, Morrison Hall 3rd Floor
http://kinseyinstitute.org

The Kinsey Institute art and library collections contain thousands of examples of erotic imagery produced over centuries by artists around the world. Secret Impressions presents a selection of lithographs, engravings, etchings and woodblock prints from the mid-19th century and earlier. These artworks from France, England, Italy, Germany, Holland, and Japan illustrate the means by which pornographic and erotic images were mass produced before the invention of the camera. Wealthy collectors could commission paintings, but others could purchase prints at a lower cost. Once photography was invented in the 1830s, it quickly became a popular medium for depictions of the nude figure, as well as erotic imagery. The first photographic process to become widespread was the daguerreotype, which produced a unique image. With the invention of a process that used a negative to make multiple photographs, the mass production of erotic images became possible. Hold That Pose features daguerreotypes, tintypes, albumen and gelatin silver prints, stereocards, and other examples of photographic processes that were used in the 19th century by professional photographers to produce and distribute erotic material.

The Kinsey Institute is open to visitors from 1:30 to 5:00 pm weekdays or at other times during office hours by appointment only. Admission is free. Due to adult content, visitors should be 18 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. To schedule a group guided tour of The Kinsey Institute, please call 812-855-7686.

IU Cinema: Appropriate Behavior/Two Lakes

07:00 pm to 08:40 pm
IU Cinema 1213 East 7th Street, Bloomington, IN 47406

Appropriate Behavior (2014) Directed by Desiree Akhavan
Two Lakes (2012) Directed by Annette Knol

For Shirin, being part of a perfect Persian family isn’t easy. Her family doesn’t know she’s bisexual, and her ex-girlfriend, Maxine, can’t understand why she doesn’t tell them. Following a family announcement of her brother’s betrothal to a parentally approved Iranian prize catch, Shirin embarks on a private rebellion involving a series of pansexual escapades.

Two Lakes is a handmade camera-less film, collectively created from piles of color gels. This tapestry of hues is accompanied by voice-over to tell the story of a teenager who moves to “The City.” Between low-paying jobs, lesbian parties, and junk food, she falls in love. The outcome is an explosion of shapes and colors that create a parallel universe to a young woman wandering through a new life. (2K DCP presentation)

Evie Ladin & Keith Terry (duo), Merriwether Williams, Steve Boller, and dwBrykalski – Bloomington Songwriter Showcase

08:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Independantly produced - hosted by the Players Pub - 424 S. Walnut, Bloomington IN 47401
http://www.facebook.com/BloomingtonSongwriters

OK – we’ve been waiting for a few years to get Evie Ladin on our stage. She was here once before and packed the place. Evie has a LOT of fans and there’s a reason for that – she is just plain old SPECIAL. Tonight she’ll be performing with co-writer Keith Terry as a duo. Looks like there will be more than one banjo player in the house too – as Merriwether Williams brings his theatric, rustic music to our stage. Merriwether has a sense of humor, and often incorporates this into his music as he strums his old banjo or washtub bass *that’s right – he plays washtub bass!. Steve Boller is a very young Alternative Rock/Contemporary writer – he has a wonderful voice, very strong songs and has become one of our Audience favorites in a very short period of time – did I mention he’ll be on stage this evening too? (He will!) Last writer on this evening’s program will be dwBrykalski – David Weirhake’s stage name : -) David has been a busy guy lately – often found running his own Showcases around Bloomington and is a prolific Singer-Songwriter in his own right. He plays guitar, accordion, harmonica and probably a few other instruments . . . and he play’s ‘em all pretty darn well. He’s backed up just about everyone who is anyone in the area’s music scene; including Krista Detor, Tim Grimm, Jason Wilbur . . . well you get the gest. . Right? Hope you all make it out to this one!
NO COVER CHARGE – and ALL Ages are welcomed.
