Exhibit: ‘WOVEN and CONSTRUCTED: Traditional African Textiles and Baskets’

This special Lotus exhibit at the Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center is a selection of traditional African fiber-art objects from the extensive collection of artist and IU Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts William Itter. These stunning woven textiles and baskets come from Sierra Leone, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and other areas of sub-Saharan Africa. Sponsored by IU African Studies Program and IU Emeriti House.

Runs from September 7 through 30. A gallery talk by Prof. Itter will be held on September 13 at 5:30 pm, followed by a reception.

When your toddler or preschool child hits the turf field at the Twin Lakes Recreation Center, they will be ready to run and play! An indoor turf field provides you and your young child with ample space to run, play on an obstacle course, and practice ball throwing and kicking skills. This free-time play is parent supervised while the TLRC provides all the equipment for an hour of healthy physical play. Check the monthly calendar for special Turf Time days with the bounce house and specially scheduled games. For children ages 1 – 6 yrs. w/parent. Every Monday and Wednesday.

Ephemeral Ink at the Kinsey Institute

“Ephemeral Ink”, an exhibit at Indiana University’s Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, features a selection of tattoo art from the Kinsey collection. Two century’s worth of tattoo-inspired art will be on display, including flash art (i.e. stereotypic tattoo designs collected in binders or painted on parlor walls), paintings of tattoos, and photographs by anonymous and fine art photographers, notably Michael Grecco, Jess T. Dugan, Chas Ray Krider and George Platt Lynes.

Runs July 9 – September 21

The Kinsey gallery is open Monday through Friday, 1:30 pm – 5 pm.

Marilyn Mellencamp Memorial Art Exhibit

The Mellencamp Family, with Connie and Steve Ferguson, are hosting a free public exhibit of Marilyn Mellencamp’s paintings at the Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center to raise awareness about the Marilyn Mellencamp Scholarship for the Arts, and to pay tribute to their late wife and mother’s artistic accomplishments. The scholarship fund will provide tuition support to Seymour area high school students who plan to pursue fine arts, theatre, or music at the college level.

The Marilyn Mellencamp Memorial Exhibit will be on display Sept. 17-22, Mon.-Fri. 9 am-7 pm, and Sat. 9 am–5 pm at the Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium.

Feldenkrais Method-Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) classes are a series of gentle, verbally guided movement sequences that are intended to improve posture, flexibility, coordination, and even attention. Those who wish to enhance their well being, whether they are healthy or currently experiencing physical pain, stress, or anxiety can, benefit from this class.

Participants must be able to get up and down to the floor without assistance. Participants must be able to lay on their stomachs for an extended period of time.
