Heritage Days

to 1405036800
Monroe Lake: Paynetown SRA, 4850 S. State Road 446

Want to take a peek into the past? Then you should definitely head over to Paynetown SRA for their annual Heritage Days, scheduled for Friday, July 11 through Sunday, July 13.

The highlight of the event is a Heritage Village, where reenactors portray time periods from 1745 to the 1890s. As you wander through their camps, you can see history brought alive… you might see a craftsman twisting a rope, try your hand at throwing a tomahawk, or step inside a trader’s tent.

Monroe Lake’s interpretive staff is also offering lots of hands-on traditional craft programs throughout the weekend. On Friday, you can make a straw ornament, painted glass jar, and a yarn doll. Saturday offers a leather tooling session, mini bow and arrows craft, and a pioneer cooking demo. Programs wrap up on Sunday with herbal sachets and a punched “tin” craft.

Program descriptions and times, and the hours for the Heritage Village, are available on Monroe Lake’s July Program Schedule at stateparks.IN.gov/2954.htm. Questions about the event can be directed to the Paynetown Activity Center at 812-837-9967.

Paynetown SRA on Monroe Lake (stateparks.IN.gov/2954.htm) is at 4850 South State Road 446, Bloomington, 47401. There is a Property Entrance Fee of $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents or $7 per vehicle for out-of-state residents.

Cost: $5 per vehicle (Indiana residents); $7 per vehicle (out-of-state residents)
