Maps & Technology

11:00 am to 03:00 pm
Hoosier National Forest
https://www.fs.usda.gov/hoosier

If you like to explore the outdoors and have an interest in technology, this program is for you! U.S. Forest Service staff will be at Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. central time and Hickory Ridge Lookout Tower from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. eastern time on Friday, July 27, to share information about National Forest System lands and demonstrate some ways that technology can assist you in exploring those lands. Stop by and chat with Hoosier National Forest staff about what maps are available and how to get them, both printed and digital. You can also bring your favorite electronic device, such as a smart phone, tablet or laptop, and learn how to use digital map products to enhance your outdoor activities and give you peace of mind about reducing your risk of getting lost. After the demonstration, you can use your new found knowledge to explore the trails in the surrounding areas. This activity is part of the U.S. Forest Service’s “It’s All Yours” campaign, an effort to connect all Americans to their national forests and grasslands. #ItsAllYours
Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area is located 6 miles south of Interstate 64 off State Highway 37 in Perry County. Please note it is in the central time zone and there is a $5 per vehicle fee for the day use area. A 5.9 mile trail for hiking or mountain biking runs from the day use area around the lake. The trail includes scenic overlooks of the lake and valley, and traverses a variety of different forest types. The Hickory Ridge Lookout Tower is located in Monroe County, adjacent to the Charles C. Deam Wilderness. It can be accessed from Tower Ridge Road, off State Highway 446, south of Bloomington. Please note it is in the eastern time zone and the tower is approximately 6.5 miles down Tower Ridge Rd. The Wilderness area offers 37 miles of trails for hiking and horse riding.

The Art & Soul of Bloomington III

06:00 pm to 07:00 pm
The Venue

On Friday, July 27th, beginning at 6:00pm, The Venue will host the Final Reception for our Third Annual Juried Art Show, The Art & Soul of Bloomington III.
Partnering with The City of Bloomington for the Bicentennial of The City and Monroe County, The Venue has challenged local artists to submit their best artistic efforts to capture the essence of our great City. Based upon the combined best efforts of four eminently qualified Judges, all of whom live in the artistic heart of Bloomington, the 25 selected art pieces are this years best of The Art & Soul of Bloomington III.
The Art & Soul of Bloomington III is Bloomington’s oldest juried art show, offering cash awards to winning artists. The body of this years submission includes painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, fiber, stained glass, stone carving and even a short story. All works are originals, created predominantly by local artists.
The Art & Soul of Bloomington III will be The Venue’s feature show for the Month of July. All of the winning art will be available for purchase. You can select from the best of the best in Bloomington, at The Venue.
