The class welcomes those who exercise regularly, those who don’t, those with limited mobility, and some who may only be able to do the exercises sitting down. About the Director

Since 1991, Brent Wallarab has been lead trombonist with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, the jazz orchestra in residence at the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. As lead trombonist, he specializes in recreating the entire spectrum of jazz brass styles. In 1992, Wallarab was appointed specialist in jazz for the Smithsonian Institution and serves as transcriber, researcher, editor, and advisor for the Smithsonian’s extensive jazz program.

He has transcribed and edited over 300 masterworks for jazz orchestra and is considered one of the leading authorities on historical composition for jazz orchestras such as those of Duke Ellington, Sy Oliver, Fletcher Henderson, and Gil Evans. He has been instrumental is cataloguing and identifying many pieces from the Ellington archives housed at the Smithsonian Institution.

Wallarab is currently an assistant professor of jazz studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Chris Wolf has won so many songwriting competitions that he can’t keep track. He is a prolific writer, and his tunes have a definite humor edge to them. Wolf is visiting us from his hometown of Mooresville, IN – and is a true Audience pleaser! Tim O’Malley is another Audience favorite with his soft-spoken, well-written tunes, and fabulous guitar work. He, too, is a winning Songwriter. Jamie Nichole is our lovely songstress from Martinsville, IN. Jamie is also an award-winning Singer-Songwriter who performs Country and Americana songs. Last but not least is Nashville writer – Dan Batstone, who is a Canadian Singer-Songwriter working out of NYC. Batstone has won more than his share of awards for his songs and lyrics. Batstone has received honorable mention for his lyrics from American Songwriter magazine, has won first place in the 2010 Tennessee Songwriting Competition, and has had his music licensed to five independent films to date – GONNA BE A GOOD PROGRAM
