Lecture: ‘Not Religious, but Spiritual…and Queer!’

05:30 pm
1165 E. Third St., Morrison Hall 006
http://newsinfo.iu.edu/tips/page/normal/23097.html?emailID=23097

Mark D. Jordan, Distinguished Professor in the Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University in St. Louis, challenges the simple story about how and why queer youth reject religion. Through a close analysis of life narratives, Jordan reveals how the widespread shift from religion to spirituality—especially among young people—has created new opportunities for self-identified queers to move beyond a critique of religion’s oppressive power to claim spirituality for themselves.
