USA International Harp Competition presents Se Hee Hwang

The USA International Harp Competition is honored to present 2016 10th USAIHC 4th Prize winner See Hee Hwang in concert at the Indiana University Global & International Studies Building Auditorium, Room 0001, November 12, 2016, at 7:00 P.M.

Miss Hwang program including selected dances from Farkas’ Danses Hongroises, Rossinni’s Zitti Zitti trio from the Barber of Seville, Marescotti’s Mouvement, Godefroid’s Carnival of Venice, Balakirev’s The Lark, Renie’s Legende, Henson-Conant’s Baroque Flamenco, and Ravel’s beloved Introduction and Allegro for harp, flute, clarinet, and string quartet.

At only 22 years of age, Korean harpist Se Hee Hwang has already garnered international success and attention. Her extensive international success includes winning 4th Prize at the esteemed 10th USA International Harp Competition in 2016, 4th Prize at the 2015 1st Korea International Harp Competition, 1st Prize & Les Harps Camac Special Prize at the 2014 France International Harp Competition, Grand Prize at the 2014 Wein International Music Competition, winner of the 2014 Lyon & Healy Award in China, 3rd Prize at the 2014 Young Artist International Harp Competition, Special Prize at the 3rd Hungary International Harp Competition in 2013, 2nd Prize at the 2012 Japan Nippon International Harp Competition, and the “City of Szeged” and 3rd Prize at the 2010 Osaka International Music Competition. Miss Hwang began playing the harp in 2002 and from an early aged showed promise on the instrument. In addition to international competitions, she has also won national prizes including 1st Prize in the Korean National Music Competition, 1st Prize in the Korean Young Artist Competition, 1st Prize in the Korea Music Competition, and Grand Prize in the Yejeon International Music Competition.

Se Hee Hwang is an active performer and enjoys playing both solo & chamber recitals. Miss Hwang made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2016 as a featured member of the Harpyday Professional Harp Ensemble with music director Jung Kwak. Miss Hwang often appears as a concerto soloist with the Korea National Symphony, Mostly Philharmonic Orchestra, and Dobre Chamber Ensemble. Other featured performances include the Asia Harp Festival 2016 “Rising Star of Asia” concert, the 12th World Harp Congress “Focus on Youth” concert in Sydney, Austrailia, the 33rd Conference of the Federation for Asian Cultural Promotion Summer Classic Star Series, the 2nd & 3rd Korean Harp Festival “Rising Stars of Asia” Concerts, 5th Hong Kong Harp Festival Rising Star Opening and Closing concerts, and the Kumho Rising Star Solo Recital Series.

Se Hee Hwang is currently an ambassador for the Green Umbrella Children Association and a member of the Harpyday Professional Harp Ensemble (Music Director, Jung Kwak). Miss Hwang’s primary teachers in Korea are Jung Kwak and Rana Park. She graduated with highest distinction in the music department from Yewon Arts School, the leading school of music, art, and dance in Korea. Currently, Miss Hwang is pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music studying with Distinguished Professor Susann McDonald and Philadelphia Orchestra Principal Harpist Elizabeth Hainen. She is a recipient of the Premier Young Artist Award Scholarship.

The concert will be presented free of charge and a reception will follow the concert in the GISB Atrium.
