When Art Heals: Therapeutic Collage with Michelle Martin-Colman at The Venue

05:30 pm to 07:00 pm
The Venue

On Tuesday, May 8 at 5:30 p.m., The Venue is pleased to host a collage event with Michelle Martin-Colman, a principal at the Venue, in celebration of Mental Health Month. Collage (from the French word coller meaning “to glue,” is a technique of art production primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new “whole.” A nice metaphor for living!

Creating art, whether music, painting, writing, dance, or whatever, is a healing force that contributes immeasurably to our psychological wellbeing. So bring your scissors and a few of your favorite magazines (we’ll have plenty on hand). Handprinted letters, words, notices, memos…anything goes, as long as it means something to you and helps you experience the healing effect of creating art!

This event is one of many hosted at the Venue to embrace the initiative “When Art Heals,” with a focus on interdisciplinary methods that affect and promote healthy attitudes and life skills through the arts.

We look forward to hosting you Tuesday for this inspiring event, and you are welcome to reach out to Michelle at 812-322-1500 for more information.

An Important Message from Bloom Magazine

For the past 14 years, we have been publishing Bloom, a free, bimonthly cultural and lifestyle magazine serving Bloomington, Indiana, and surrounding communities. We have four missions: to support local businesses, local charities, local arts, and diversity. We are an integral part of the fabric of this community.

Like so many small businesses (4 employees), we are facing huge challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to be able to continue producing the magazine and our website, magbloom.com, but we need your help.

Please consider donating to our GoFundMe drive using the link below. Thank you!
