05:30 pm to 07:00 pm
The Venue Fine Art & Gifts

Michelle Martin Colman, one of the principles at The Venue, has been a communications consultant for over 35 years, and concentrates on her initiative “When Art Heals” with a focus on interdisciplinary methods that affect and promote healthy mental attitudes and life-skills, through the arts.
As a part of Mental Health Month at The Venue, on Tuesday, May 16th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Venue will host a collage event led by Michelle. Collage (from the French: coller, “to glue”; is a technique of art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.
Doing art — whether music, painting, writing, dance, whatever — can contribute immeasurably to one’s psychological well-being. Art can be a healing force for people with mental disorders, including people with dementia, and art can contribute to psychological well-being of people regardless of whether they have mental issues. So bring your scissors, a glue stick and a few of your favorite magazines, printed letters, words, notices, memos anything goes, just so it means something to you, and experience the healing effect of creating art.
Through the arts people can find voices to express dimensions of self usually left in silence. And through art, people can shape their own identity. Art is not just self-expression; it is also self-creation.
