Art and a Movie: Cubism in Focus

Nan Brewer, the IU Art Museum’s Lucienne M. Glaubinger Curator of Works on Paper, will compare a selection of Cubist prints by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque and discuss some early photographic images of movement.

IU Cinema, 3:00-4:30 P.M.
Picasso and Braque Go to the Movies (2008) and Ballet méchanique (1923-24)

Narrated and co-produced by acclaimed director and film historian Martin Scorsese, Picasso and Braque examines the connections between early motion pictures and the development of Cubism. Ballet méchanique, an early experimental art film by the Cubist Fernand Léger, will also be screened (81 min. total program, not rated).

This program is presented in partnership with IU Cinema and is sponsored in part by Marsha R. Bradford and Harold A. Dumes. The talks and films are free and open to the public.

Future celebrities will blossom when homegrown talent competes for a $5,000 grand prize. Indiana Campus Superstar is open to any college student in the state of Indiana and is the Helene G Simon Hillel Center’s largest fundraiser.The contest, based on the hit TV show American Idol, has run annually since 2004. Mark your calendar to join us to watch the 10 student finalists compete to be crowned as Campus Superstar 2016 at the Finals at the Tobey Theater in the Indianapolis Museum of Art on Sunday, April 17. Hillel is the center for Jewish life for over 4,000 Jewish students on the IU campus and trains the Jewish leaders of tomorrow. It provides many services for students including Shabbat dinners, kosher meals, social programming, and even delivers matzo ball soup to sick students.
