Nan Brewer, the IU Art Museum’s Lucienne M. Glaubinger Curator of Works on Paper, will discuss a selection of prints from different art periods that are rare because they are singular impressions (monotypes), early proofs/states, or parts of variant or very small editions.

Please meet in the museum’s third floor office. No pre-registration is required, but space is limited. Admission will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Rediscovering Carrie Parker’s IU Story

The summer of 2015, Dina Kellams, director of the Indiana University Archives, stumbled across an 1898 newspaper headline proclaiming “First Colored Girl in Indiana University.” The woman identified, Carrie Parker from Clinton, Indiana, is a name that was absent from the history of African Americans at IU. Come hear more about Dina’s rediscovery and the amazing path her subsequent research led her down!

2016 Btown AIDS Walk and Light the Night Festival

The Community AIDS Action Group (CAAG) and IU School of Public Health host 12th annual walk and glow themed festival to raise money for regional HIV Prevention and Client Services on Friday, April 22 2016. The festival will be held at the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention Center parking lot on the east side of 3rd and College beginning at 5:30p.m. Walk registrants are encouraged to raise donations for the walk and all funds will go to IU Health Positive Link, the region’s HIV Prevention and Client Services organization serving South Central Indiana. The festival will begin at 5:30p.m. and the walk will step off at sundown, around 8:00p.m. This year’s theme, “Light the Night” will be a fun and family friendly event. Food will be available for purchase at the nearby Food Truck Friday event at The Chocolate Moose. The festival and walk will incorporate glow-in-the-dark activities including a bounce house and face painting. Admittance to the festival is free. Registration for the walk is $25.00 per person and includes a t-shirt and two glow items. For more information and for individual and team registration visit www.btownaidswalk.org. A reception for The Art & Soul of Bloomington, the Venue’s Juried Art Show

On Friday, April 22th, beginning at 6:00p.m, The Venue will host a reception for the exhibition of The Art & Soul o f Bloomington, The Venue’s Juried Art Show.
Over the last several months, the Venue has challenged artists, in all mediums, to create works that capture the spirit, the essence of Bloomington. The result of their efforts is overwhelming. Three very qualified art Jurors then selected, in their collective judgment, the twenty-five pieces that best manifested that theme, to compose the body of The Art & Soul of Bloomington, the Venue’s Juried Art Show.
On Friday, The Venue will host a reception for The Art & Soul of Bloomington. Some of the participating artists may be present, and you will have the opportunity to view and shop one of the finest art shows in the Venue’s history. See the paintings awarded Best in Show and Silver Best in Show, and vote for the People’s Choice Cash Award.
